Peripheral
Peripheral can have different meanings depending on the context. Here are the two most common interpretations:
1. On the Outside or Less Important:
- Generally: This refers to something located on the outer edge or boundary of something else. It can also describe something that is of lesser importance or relevance compared to the core or central aspect.
- Anatomy: This term describes parts of the body that are near the surface, like the skin, limbs, and the peripheral nervous system, which carries signals outside the central nervous system.
- Vision: "Peripheral vision" refers to the ability to see things out of the corner of your eye, beyond the central focus.
- Computing: When talking about computers, "peripheral" refers to any device connected to the main computer that expands its capabilities. This includes devices like printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, external hard drives, etc.
2. Science Fiction:
In science fiction, "peripheral" often refers to a simulated reality or virtual world that exists alongside the real world. This can be a separate universe or a hidden layer within our own.
